Alexandria Credit Union Chapter Impacts Quality of Life for Local Kids!

The kids at CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital’s NICU, Pediatric Therapy Center and 17 rural School Based Health Centers were recently presented with a surprise $1196 check from the Alexandria Credit Union Chapter in Central Louisiana at its quarterly meeting on Oct. 15th.

On behalf of the kids at Cabrini Hospital, Kellie Flynn Freebeck, Program Manager for Children’s Miracle Network, accepted the check presented by Chris Chelette, Chapter President, and Cindy Beauregard. The night’s drawing winner, Danielle Thibodeaux, also donated an additional $65 to the CMN program at Cabrini Hospital.

Energetic and active kids like Erin & Ian benefit heavily from specialized life saving treatments that are made available at the Cabrini Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) through donations from local credit unions.  Born at just 29 weeks and weighing a little over 2 lbs., the twins spent many weeks in Cabrini’s level 3, regional NICU.  Not only did they survive, but are thriving today!

Other kids like Payton benefit from the occupational, physical and speech therapies that are available at the Cabrini Pediatric Therapy Center through similar donations.  Just shy of his 12th birthday, Payton’s fever blister led to encephalitis.  30% of his brain was damaged.   After relearning to swallow, speak and eat at the Cabrini Pediatric Therapy Center, Payton is now working hard at school and playing in the band!

As the only CMN and not-for-profit hospital within a seventy mile radius of Central Louisiana, CHRISTUS Cabrini’s pediatric patients travel from 14 parishes to receive life saving services.  The funds donated by the Alexandria Credit Union Chapter will support Cabrini’s mission to extend world-class faith inspired health care to all patients with special concern for the poor and under served.
